The lateral plyometric jump is a fairly simple agility ladder drill. Virtually all sports require lateral movements (running, shuffling, jumping, etc). "Plyo" jumps will enhance leg power and strength. They will also improve your ability to accelerate, decelerate, and quickly change direction while maintaining balance. Instructions for the lateral plyometric jump are as follows:
Position yourself on the right side of the first ladder square. With both legs, jump sideways to the left side of the ladder. Jump again to the right side of the ladder. Repeat the movement to advance down the agility ladder.
Be sure to stay on your toes at all times. The key to this exercise is to jump quickly. Keep your landings short. Your aim is to try to develop muscular power in order to generate maximum force quickly.
